Minister Mary Butler

Born and reared in Portlaw, Mary is married to Mick Butler and they have 3 children.

A lifelong member of Fianna Fáil, Mary first ran for office in 2014 when she was successfully elected to represent the Comeragh Area in Waterford Council.

In 2016 Mary contested the general election and was elected on the first count, topping the poll. She was appointed as the Fianna Fáil spokesperson for Older People & Health Promotion in opposition.

In 2020 Mary retained her seat. Fianna Fáil entered government and Mary was proud to be appointed Minister of State for Mental Health & Older People. She was reappointed to the role in 2022. Mary is passionate about dementia care, ensuring older people live independently for as long as possible and accessible mental health services for all.

Mary is honoured to have been elected Vice President of the Fianna Fáil Party in 2022.
